Inspiration
Inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and a desire to create a cool device that assists with a common passion of ours.
What it does
This project allows the user to select a type of dice to roll, an amount of said dice type to roll, and a static modifier to add to the roll in order to simulate any type of dice roll in D&D.
How we built it
We used an Arduino to allow user input via a joystick to navigate and select menu options and code to implement the menu, randomization, and calculations.
Challenges we ran into
Correctly hooking up all of the elements of the Arduino was challenging. We did a bunch of research into a specific joystick, only to discover that it required soldering!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The construction of both the Arduino circuitry and the logical components of the code.
What we learned
We learned a bunch about the connections and functionality of an Arduino as well as the format and usage of programming language statements to use it correctly.
What's next for D&D Dice Roller
We're planning to integrate this with the Roll20 API!
