Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was inspired on the rising problem of media misinformation. We made an app that helps users reclaim the information that is portrayed to them.
What it does
With RabbitHole users gain access to dig deeper into the media that they are provided whether it be running it against a well-known fact checker, or finding relevant articles to the information they have selected.
How we built it
We developed this program using GoogleCloud, JavaScript, CSS, HTML. Each individual participated in full-stack development within this project with it being broken down into three parts, chrome extension development, fact checker development, and search result developmet.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges regarding the framework of our development. At first we tried creating a flask web-app and had developed a web scraping tool as well as accessed the fact checker api succesfully. However for the sake of concise code and greater functionality we decided to convert our code to be based fully on JavaScript for back-end development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to come together as a team to create a highly useful, extremely creative, functional program.
What we learned
With this project, each of us gained experience in developing a chrome web-extension, furthered our knowledge of JavaScript, and developed skills revolving around teamwork, collaboration, and working in a fast-paced, development environment.
What's next for RabbitHole
We plan on continuing development on this project as a team in regards to more features that expand user experience. We are currently pending for Chrome Webstore Approval and look forwards to receiving it to share RabbitHole with the public!
