3MAIL is an end-to-end encrypted messaging protocol on Polkadot that turns wallets into inboxes, enabling unstoppable, private, on-chain communication and notifications for any dapp.

Inspiration

I want to move Polkadot beyond just crypto-native DeFi and into solving real problems that matter to society.

What it does

R3LAY is a serverless communication protocol that uses Polkadot smart contracts for access control and IPFS for encrypted content. It lets anyone publish messages and reach audiences without relying on a centralized server, and no platform can censor them, take away their followers, or compromise their data. 3MAIL is the first product which is like an onchain email.

How we built it

Built with the help of AI and vibe coding. I chose the tech: Polkadot Passet Hub, wallets, encryption, smart contracts, and evolved from there.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge is the UI. How to abstract away the encryption and wallet needs as much as possible.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The UI - it resembles a basic email client, and works as you would expect.

What we learned

We're not so far from real impactful applications on Polkadot. There is a slight user difficulty in dealing with wallets and encryption, but it's closer than we think.

What's next for R3LAY - 3MAIL

Build more user friendly features (name registration, threaded convos, etc.) Expand to other aspects of publishing like Substack, etc.
