Our Inspiration is Inga, age 45, professional with 2 young kids. She was diagnosed with melanoma Stage 3. She had the tumor surgically removed and she got 1-year treatment. She is cancer free now but there is low risk of re-occurrence. Similar to many other cancer survivors, she is having a tough time transitioning back into her everyday life. We want to find ways to make the transition as seamless as possible.
What we built
We built a multifunction platform that connects survivors, encourages group engagement, aggregates helpful services, and overall makes the new life of the patient as simple and easy as possible. We built a QR code scanner that autopopulates your schedule with medications and doctors appointments. A voice to text transcriber to record daily transcripts of how the user is feeling. A machine learning classifier to identify if an uploaded image is malignant or benign.
How we built it
We used bootstrap a bootstrap template to create a fluid user interface for survivors to use as part of the platform. We used thunkable to rapidly prototype a mobile app with QR code scanning capability and voice to text capability. We used Firebase to create an online real time database to facilitate data transfer between different parts of the platform.
Challenges we faced
Various APIs and programs were fairly difficult to use. The classifier took a long time to train and the dataset took a long time to download. The prompts were also fairly constrained which made finding a viable solution difficult.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
Getting the platform fully connect. The web platform looks quite nice.
