Inspiration
We were inspired by the Star Wars robot R2D2, naming our robot R1-D1.
What it does
R1-D1 is a robot specialized in autonomously mapping out the environment, whether it is a classroom, a dangerous zone or the bank before a heist.
How we built it
We 3D-printed parts and assembled them in the first hour, then used a Raspberry Pi to control the robot. We programmed the Pi with Python-integrated ROS2.
Challenges we ran into
The pathfinding algorithm took over 10 hours of work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting a basic pathfinding algorithm working in under 6 hours was a real morale boost.
What we learned
We learned how to use the ROS2 CLI, Nav2, and TailScale VPN.
