Inspiration
Most of us working in big corporations go thru the daily frustration of finding a conference room to hold meetings in.
How it works
It’s a combination of: Watch App, Scheduler, Event notifier, and Analysis tool. Using sensors, we will be able to allow a user to find out the status of a conference room. It will use GE's Predix Platform heavily, for RESTful service hosting and for data analysis. The user can schedule for a conference room and be notified when the room becomes available via mobile devices and wearables. Each conference room's usage data will also be collected to analyze user preferences and to discover delinquent users. This concept can be extended to any other type of asset management system, e.g. Hospitals, warehouses.
Challenges I ran into
The hardest part of the project was to be able to get everyone together into a room and come up with a solution that everyone can live with, and then getting everyone to do his part.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We were able to come up with a working prototype in 1.5 days. This was the first prize winner for the 1st ever GE Hackathon.
What I learned
Necessity is the mother of all inventions. I could not believe how many people came up to us and tell us what a great concept our product was because everyone was frustrated with getting a conference room.
What's next for r00mz Conference Room Management System
We are waiting for additional fundings to continue this project. Unfortunately, because this is GE proprietary information, I can not upload the code to a public github repository.
