Inspiration
R'Parts is inspired by how difficult it is for students to procure electronic parts required for BCOE classes, especially in times of hardware shortages. Throughout our academic careers, we have experienced difficulty in acquiring hardware parts. We have had to spend a lot of money on hardware in order to complete assignments for various classes.
What it does
R'Parts offers a more accessible way for students to sell and purchase the required hardware at a second-hand price.
How we built it
While developing R'Parts we learned how to use the CSS Framework, Bulma. We also familiarized ourselves with frontend tools including CSS, HTML, and JavaScript as well as development tools like Visual Studio Code and Github.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge that we faced is when we were trying to merge all individual parts of the project together at the end of development. This was due to some inconsistencies in file storage and discrepancies in naming conventions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Within the duration of the hackathon, we were able to showcase all basic functionalities including: landing page, browsing, and purchasing. As a team, we were able to develop a cost-efficient medium for students to buy and sell hardware parts required for classes.
What we learned
With R'Parts, as a team, we learned to collaborate with one another all while being able to work independently. As much as we have furthered our understanding and scope of front-end development, we were also able to explore working in a team environment under the pressure of the time constraint of 12 hours.
What's next for R'Parts
This online second-hand marketplace acts as a shared community here within UCR (and potentially other schools). As of this moment, R'Parts is heavily focused on BCOE Students. However, in the future, our marketplace can be extended to course materials for other majors. R'Parts allows students to bypass scouring Reddit Posts, Facebook Marketplaces, and all other avenues of obtaining hardware. R'Parts is here and we R here to stay.
