Messenger is a platform with over a billion users -- being able to expose more people to Reddit's awesome content through its bots platform was interesting to us.
What it does
For now, two subreddits can be accessed through R/BOT -- r/showerthoughts and r/aww -- two of our favourite communities.
How we built it
We used wit.ai for its language recognition and machine learning to parse inputs from users. We then leveraged node.js and Facebook's Messenger platform.
Challenges we ran into
The team had no experience with wit.ai, node.js and Facebook's Messenger platform. It was a learning experience through-and-through.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
By the end of HTN, we had a fairly good grasp on the tools we used to complete the project.
What we learned
We learned a ton of node.js, wit.ai and lots regarding making bots.
What's next for R/BOT
More subreddits and fewer bugs.
