Inspiration

Sometime in 2020, I joined a platform—for the purpose of this story let's call it "Y"—because of its innovative services and user-centric approach.

For years, it was a perfect fit for my needs. However, in late 2023, "Y" was acquired, and its direction shifted drastically. The values that once resonated with me were replaced by corporate priorities that I didn’t agree with.

As you would have guessed, I decided to delete my account. But even after doing so, I kept receiving promotional emails from them. This unsettling experience made me realize a harsh truth: I didn’t truly own my personal data.

The lack of control and transparency in the way my data was handled inspired me to create Quyx. I envisioned a platform where users would have full sovereignty over their digital identities, free from corporate whims or opaque data practices. Quyx was born out of this desire to empower individuals, ensuring that their personal data remains theirs alone.

What it does

Quyx is a decentralized identity solution that leverages blockchain technology to manage user credentials. By using Quyx, users have full control over any credentials created within the platform, ensuring that their personal data is securely managed and truly under their control.

How we built it

Quyx is built on The Open Network (TON), utilizing IPFS to securely store user credentials. The smart contract was developed using TACT, one of TON's supported programming languages, while the backend architecture was constructed with TypeScript and Express.JS

Challenges we ran into

A key challenge we faced—and one we know will persist—is convincing users that their credentials are stored securely. Although blockchain stores data publicly, we encrypt users’ data before storing it on-chain, ensuring that their information remains private.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A significant accomplishment for the Quyx team was our participation in The Open League Hackathon. Out of nearly a thousand entries, we were proud to be recognized as one of the top 100 semi-finalists, a testament to the innovation and hard work behind Quyx.

What we learned

Building Quyx was a profound learning experience. It deepened our understanding of user privacy, the intricacies of Verifiable Credentials (VCs), and underscored the critical importance of interoperability between systems and platforms.

What's next for Quyx

In the next six months, our focus will be on releasing critical patches and security fixes across all our tools.

Additionally, we plan to engage with social networks on TON, advocating for Quyx as a superior option for user identity management, emphasizing the benefits of decentralized, user-controlled data.
