Inspiration
After trying and failing to implement some cooler API based solutions on our sponsors platforms, I chose at around 4 am to try to teach myself web development. Once I could build a website that looked bad, I decided to add API calls to it.
What it does
The site uses the kanye.rest and AnimeChan apis
How we built it
The site uses the kanye.rest and AnimeChan apis, and is built on html, javascript, and css without any frameworks.
Challenges we ran into
Not knowing html or css was fixable during the hackathon. But learning enough javascript to use APIs for other projects was too hard, so I decided to start the logic from scratch.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I've never built a website from scratch before, so even though this one is pretty barebones, I'm happy I was able to build something that at least functions and taught me a lot of the barebones of web dev. This is also my first in person hackathon, so I am happy I was able to submit anything at all!
What we learned
Working with my table of 6 as we cycled through different ideas, broke off into different projects, gave up, got back to it, changed our goals, and endured a 24 hour grind was a fantastic experience in what I can offer a team. The other two projects we ended up developing came from ideas I proposed during the first hour of the hackathon and wrote down.
What's next for Quotes from West and the rest
One day I hope to actually learn to make a website and send something a bit more useful out into the world.
