QuizFlix – Learn, Play, and Challenge Yourself on TV!
Inspiration
We wanted to transform television from a passive entertainment platform into an interactive learning experience. As an AI and Data Science engineering student, I created QuizFlix to combine education, entertainment, and TV-friendly gameplay.
What It Does
QuizFlix is an educational quiz application designed for television screens. It offers four categories: General Knowledge, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Mixed Challenge.
Key Features
- Five randomly selected questions per quiz round
- A 20-second countdown timer for each question
- Instant green and red answer feedback
- Final score and percentage calculation
- Category-specific high scores saved locally
- Play Again and Back to Home options
- Large buttons and TV-friendly navigation
How I Built It
We developed QuizFlix using Java, XML, Android Studio, and the Android SDK.
The application includes a home screen, category selection screen, and quiz engine. I used Collections.shuffle() for question randomization, CountDownTimer for timed gameplay, and SharedPreferences to store high scores.
We tested the application using an Android TV emulator.
Challenges I Faced
My biggest challenge was creating an interface suitable for a television screen, with readable text, clear answer choices, and remote-friendly navigation.
We also had to coordinate the countdown timer, answer feedback, automatic question transitions, and scoring logic.
What I Learned
This project helped me improve my Java and Android development skills. I learned more about activity navigation, XML layouts, timers, local storage, UI design, debugging, and building applications for TV-style interaction.
Accomplishments
We successfully developed a functional quiz application with four categories, randomized questions, timed gameplay, instant answer feedback, and persistent high scores.
What's Next
We plan to introduce more quiz categories, difficulty levels, multiplayer challenges, leaderboards, and additional testing on Fire TV devices.
Conclusion
QuizFlix brings learning and entertainment together through an engaging television quiz experience.
Learn. Play. Challenge Yourself.
