Inspiration

When many of us were young, we loved the quizzes in our favorite weekly magazines. Even as adults we love a quiz. It’s like a mini mystery to solve while we grab a cup of tea at break time – how much am I like this? How much do I know about that? What will my score be? Simple as that – quizzes are fun. We all know that if learning is fun, we learn better. Well-targeted, tailor-made quizzes can boost self-esteem and confidence. An individual quiz takes off the pressure that a ‘test’ can bring. A quiz can also support a growth mindset and foster the attitude to life-long learning. Fun online quizzes can reduce students’ stress. Increasing students' involvement, motivation, better score, and stress reduction are several benefits that students get through fun online quizzes. So, we came up with a website, Quizeria that can be used to motivate people, help assess what they learned, and to reduce stress.

What it does

The website, Quizeria features online quiz on different themes, namely Cartoon and Animation, Film, Sports, and Science and Technology. Initially, it allows the user to commence with picking a theme. The user then chooses the difficulty level - Easy, Medium, or Hard. Then, the user is provided with questions from that particular theme and the chosen difficulty level. There are 5 questions in each theme. After the user has answered all these questions, he/she is provided with the scores.

How we built it

We kicked off the project by discovering the abundant features available in Velo by Wix to accomplish a beautiful user interface. Inspired by the theme of fun we decided to make Quizeria. All the designs were first made using Canva. Subsequently, we started using Velo by Wix to create the Front-end upon deciding what features and pages we can add to Quizeria and ended up with including several attributes to project like giving user an interactive interface, allowing user to choose the category and difficulty level of the quiz questions that would be generated considering these parameters using an API. We inspected the various functionalities provided by Velo by Wix and tried to add simple and efficient javascript code for comprehending the latter feature.

Challenges we ran into

  • Working on a project, online with a team is still a perplexity we were facing as we don't have much experience working under such pressure inducing situation. Even though Github and Velo by Wix helped a lot in collaborating with each other and allowed us to work together on the code and Front-end. Online communication is still not much efficient but we know that with time and participating in such hackathons will teach us how to deal with such situations.
  • Velo by Wix was something we were using for the very first time, it took a little time for all of us to discover the various features available in Velo by Wix, but at the end we were able to make a pretty much simple and neat website.
  • Another mentionable challenge was defining a rigid schedule of doing the things in order to manage time and how to allot how much time to a work is still something we are figuring out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We overcame the above-mentioned challenges, that too with good time management. We worked together in a team, where everyone was efficient and worked hard for the project, so the end result was awe-inspiring. We feel proud to say that this was the first time we worked with Velo by Wix and were able to produce a remarkable result through it. Despite the difficulties, successfully completing the project in the given period of time is one of the biggest accomplishments we could have accomplished in this hackathon and we are proud of that.

What we learned

Time management is something that we will eventually learn, but through this event we got some idea on how to prioritize the work to manage time. We learned how to work under pressure. Team work was also an important lesson through this. We learned how to analyze the expertise of each other, we learned many new technical concepts while working with each other. Along with that, we got to know a lot from each other’s experience. Patience and calmness are the key in such a pressure inducing situation, believe in ourselves and backing each other is very important and that is what helped and motivated us to keep on working on the project and not losing hope against the fear of failure.

What's next for Quizeria

We would like to take our project further by including new functionalities, such as:

  • Authentication before the start of the quiz so that high scores can be maintained for all the themes.
  • More themes to give a variety to the users.
  • Show the correct answers along with the options chosen by the user, so they can view their mistakes. Overall, this project can be taken to a higher platform with improved standards. Along with that, participating in this hackathon boosted the confidence of our team. Now, we feel strong enough to compete and go for more such challenges and face them fearlessly. And hopefully our future road is embarked with much more achievements.
