Inspiration
Inspiration We set out to create a fun, educational experience focused on history. Inspired by games like GeoGuessr, Year Guesser turns learning historical facts and dates into an engaging challenge.
What it Does Year Guesser lets you dive into history by guessing key dates, events, or facts across various eras—from ancient times to modern milestones. Not a fan of the quiz? Generate a new one and share your creation on our subreddit for others to enjoy.
How We Built It We built the app on the Devvit platform using Blocks posts, with Redis as our backend on Reddit. The Gemini APIs power the quiz generation, ensuring diverse content for history buffs.
Challenges
TypeScript Learning Curve: Our limited experience meant we had to quickly ramp up our TypeScript skills.
New Platform Hurdles: With Devvit being relatively new, resources were scarce.
Content Focus: Crafting quizzes solely about history required precise curation to keep them both accurate and engaging.
Proud Moments
Launching the app successfully.
Empowering users to create and share their own history quizzes.
Making history fun and interactive.
What’s Next
Data Integration: We plan to add a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline for sourcing reliable historical data.
Focused Content: Sharpen the focus solely on history to ensure each quiz is both informative and exciting.
Growing the Community: Encourage more history enthusiasts to join in and contribute their own quizzes.
