Inspiration
Alexa is a great living room companion. Audio combined with responses from users, with visual presentation is an engaging format to test your knowledge on a topic or to learn more about a topic in the form of a quiz.
Quiz genie is a free online marketplace for quizzes with an Alexa skill companion.
What it does
Quiz Genie has a collection of public quizzes, with the ability to add your own quizzes. Quizzes you add can optionally be shared publicly or with select users. You can search for publicly shared quizzes and add them to your collection.
Quiz questions are in multiple choice format. They can be played on the website or on Alexa. Along with the right answer , an optional additional insight can be added.
How I built it
I built as an asp net app, with react front-end.
Challenges I ran into
APL documentation isn't great and it seems to take more time to build than i felt it should. Specifically because I am building in a language that doesn't have official sdk.
Testing with simulator was time consuming too during development. Additional tools for testing voice interfaces that work locally would have been helpful.
What I learned
State management, dialog flow is hard and time consuming.
