QuitChain: x402 Rewards for Tobacco-Free Days
Problem
Quitting tobacco is especially difficult during the first few weeks. People make a significant effort to remain tobacco-free, but they often receive little immediate positive reinforcement for that effort.
Through our Tobacco Free Bharat initiative, we identified an opportunity to connect tobacco-cessation support with small, transparent digital rewards. Solution
QuitChain is an AI-agent-powered platform that rewards users for completing daily tobacco-free check-ins.
Users submit a daily check-in through the QuitChain interface. The backend validates the check-in according to the MVP rules, tracks the user's tobacco-free streak, and calculates a reward. Longer streaks can unlock larger milestone rewards.
The core workflow is:
check-in → streak validation → reward calculation → x402 payment → settlement → transaction confirmation
The current MVP uses self-reported check-ins. Future versions can connect with health APIs, wearable devices, pharmacies, clinics, or supervised community programs to improve verification.
x402 Integration
QuitChain uses the x402 payment protocol to connect a real-world behavior-change event with an automated blockchain payment workflow.
After a valid check-in, the system creates a payment requirement for the calculated reward. The payment is authorized, the request is retried with the payment payload, and the payment is verified and settled through the configured facilitator. After successful settlement, QuitChain returns the transaction receipt to the application.
The demonstrated payment sequence is:
Challenge → Sign → Retry → Verify → Settle → Transaction receipt
For the Brainwave Blockchain Track, the corrected implementation uses:
- Network: Algorand Testnet
- Facilitator: GoPlausible
- Asset: Test ALGO or Algorand Testnet USDC
- Explorer: Lora Algokit Testnet
All rewards in this demonstration use testnet assets only.
Target Users and Customers
The primary users are people participating in tobacco-cessation programs.
Potential paying customers include:
- NGOs and public-health organizations.
- Tobacco-cessation clinics.
- Employers supporting employee wellness.
- Insurance and health programs.
- Sponsors funding community reward campaigns.
The potential business model is pay-per-verified-check-in. A participating organization can fund a reward pool and pay for each eligible reward event processed by the service.
Impact
QuitChain provides immediate positive reinforcement during the early stages of tobacco cessation. It also creates a transparent record of reward settlements and demonstrates how agentic micropayments can support public-health programs.
The same model could later support other social-impact behaviors, such as school attendance, climate-resilient farming, or participation in community health programs. Technology
- x402 payment protocol.
- Node.js and Express, where applicable.
- Algorand Testnet.
- Testnet ALGO or Algorand Testnet USDC.
- GoPlausible x402 facilitator.
- Wallet integration.
- GitHub.
MVP Limitations
The current MVP relies on self-reported check-ins, which can be falsified. It does not provide medical advice or independently prove tobacco abstinence.
Future versions will introduce stronger verification, identity protection, anti-fraud controls, and partnerships with healthcare and community organizations.
Challenges
The main challenge was connecting a real-world behavior-change use case with a reliable automated payment workflow. We also had to learn about blockchain wallets, testnet assets, payment authorization, and the x402 lifecycle.
We kept the MVP focused on one complete loop:
check-in → verify → reward payment → transaction receipt
Accomplishments
- Created a public-health use case for agentic micropayments.
- Designed a streak-based tobacco-cessation reward model.
- Connected a user check-in with an x402 payment workflow.
- Prepared an architecture that can support other social-impact incentives.
- Developed a concept grounded in our experience with tobacco-free community initiatives.
Future Scope
- WhatsApp-based check-ins.
- Health-app and wearable integrations.
- Pharmacy and clinic partnerships.
- Stronger identity and anti-fraud controls.
- Community-funded reward pools.
- Mainnet deployment after testing and compliance review.
- Extension to school attendance and climate-resilient farming.
