Inspiration
Inspired by the likes of BeReal, Yelp, and Snapchat's map feature, our vision was to create an app that helps people quickly discover live events and hangouts as they happen!
What it does
Quikscene is primarily a map-based app that displays ongoing events through user-generated posts. Similar to BeReal, posts consist of real-time photos—no uploads allowed—with an automatically linked location showcased on a global map. Users can share and rate current events, providing insights to others on whether an event is worth attending. The app also indicates the popularity of an event based on user posts, so you can decide whether to join in on the fun.
How we built it
Our toolset included React Native for swift UI development, Firebase for managing user data, and Expo for its real-time update capabilities, significantly speeding up our development process.
Challenges we ran into
As newcomers to React Native, Firebase, and Expo, our journey began with a steep learning curve. Much of our initial time was invested in setting up and researching these new frameworks.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Navigating the unfamiliar terrain of app development for the first time is our collective achievement. We take pride in every aspect of our learning journey—from mastering screen navigation to UI design.
What we learned
This experience opened our eyes to the vast world of coding, far beyond what we learned in university. JavaScript’s versatility was a revelation to us, especially coming from backgrounds in Python and C++.
What's next for Quikscene
We aim to continue developing Quikscene as a side project, enhancing our skills and building a standout feature for our resumes.
