QuiFlix

Inspiration

QuiFlix was inspired by my journey as a filmmaker who struggled to distribute films, fight piracy, and earn fairly. After seeing countless African and Asian creators blocked from global platforms and fans sidelined from meaningful participation, I knew there had to be a better model. QuiFlix was born to solve the problems I personally faced — ownership, access, and sustainable monetization.

What it does

QuiFlix is a decentralized film platform that lets filmmakers securely distribute their work on-chain while enabling fans to invest in films through NFTs. Each film is hashed and stored on-chain, its content stored on IPFS, and fans gain ownership rights they can trade or gift. Filmmakers earn more, fans participate in the value, and piracy becomes harder.

How we built it

We built QuiFlix using a Web3-first architecture: smart contracts store hashes and ownership on-chain, film files are pinned to IPFS, and our frontend enables minting, purchasing, and reselling of film NFTs. We used Hedera testnet for fast, low-cost transactions and integrated a clean UI so filmmakers can upload films and fans can buy them with ease.

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges simplifying Web3 for non-technical users, ensuring smooth uploads to IPFS, and designing a model where both creators and fans benefit. Another challenge was balancing security, decentralization, and user experience while keeping costs low for filmmakers in emerging markets.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a fully functional MVP in a short time, integrated on-chain storage, launched publicly, and onboarded our first 150 early users in just two weeks. We also secured interest from filmmakers who want to distribute their films through QuiFlix — validating that the problem is real and the solution is needed.

What we learned

We learned how deep the distribution problem is for filmmakers, how eager fans are to participate in film ownership, and how powerful decentralized infrastructure can be when applied to creative industries. We also gained insight into designing Web3 products for users who are completely new to blockchain.

What's next for QuiFlix

Next, we plan to expand film onboarding, integrate brand sponsorships, introduce fan reward systems, and scale into more African and Asian markets. We’ll also develop analytics for creators, launch our mobile version, and prepare for mainnet deployment. Our vision is to make QuiFlix the ownership-based streaming platform for emerging markets — where creators earn fairly, fans invest, and stories thrive.
