Inspiration
Modern social media platforms overwhelm users with endless features, algorithmic feeds, and engagement metrics—leading to distraction, pressure, and reduced well-being. Quiet is a minimalist alternative, built for digital minimalists, artists, older adults, and parents seeking a safe, distraction-free platform.
Quiet offers a calm, ad-free space with static content, a chronological feed, and no "likes" or follower counts—just simple sharing and meaningful interaction.
What it does
Core Functionality: Group-centric experience: Users join public or private groups. Private groups require an invitation and can be free or subscription-based.
Focused content access: Users see posts only from groups they belong to, with group-level conversations and direct messaging between members.
Minimalist posting: Chronological feed, one image or up to 30 seconds of video per post, simple user profiles, light commenting, and predefined reactions.
Privacy-first: User profiles contain only necessary personal details and have clear privacy settings.
Custom themes: Option to switch between light/dark or custom themes for accessibility and preference.
How we built it
Built using Bolt in just 27 hours, starting June 28 at 12 PM IST and finishing by June 29 at 3 PM IST.
Supabase powers the backend: database, GraphQL APIs, edge functions, and Row-Level Security (RLS).
Stripe integration for subscriptions.
Netlify for frontend deployment.
Used the complete Bolt toolset for rapid prototyping and development.
Challenges we ran into
The most time-consuming aspect was setting up Row-Level Security (RLS) in Supabase. Debugging access issues initially led us down the wrong path, but we ultimately resolved them by correctly configuring RLS policies.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Seeing the idea come to life in just a day was incredible! Back in 2022, I built a similar app over 6–8 months during nights and weekends after work. Thanks to the speed and power of tools like Bolt and Supabase, Quiet became real in just over a day. It feels like having a team of skilled developers working alongside me.
What we learned
Ideas matter most—with the right tools, execution becomes faster than ever.
Bolt felt like a responsive, intelligent team that intuitively assisted throughout the development.
Technical advancements in platforms like Supabase drastically reduce build time without compromising on security or capability.
What's next for Quiet
We want to redefine how people share personal content—calmly, securely, and without distraction. Quiet aims to be a safe space for:
Parents and grandparents who avoid social media due to fear of inappropriate content.
Teachers who need a secure platform to share memories with students.
Artists who want to post without worrying about algorithms or likes.
We envision Quiet as a platform where content is not manipulated for engagement, but shared with sincerity—and consumed with mindfulness.
