Inspiration
All of us are Harry Potter enthusiasts, and we wanted to build a fun game would be easy yet addictive to play.
What it does
The player has to use the arrow keys to move up and down, similar to the famous Flappy Bird game, and must avoid goal hoops and flying Bludgers in order to stay alive. Once the player runs into any of the aforementioned obstacles, the game ends.
How we built it
We used Java and its JPanel features to create the user interface and graphics to create the Bludgers.
Challenges we ran into
Getting multiple Bludgers to arrive in succession was a challenge, as well as getting the Bludger to appear as though it was moving. We also did not manage to add all the features that we intended to for lack of time, and our desire to attend workshops.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are glad to have been able to create an application has the most basic functionality of a game (use of arrow keys and collisions).
What we learned
We learned that there may be many different methods to achieve the same goal; some are more roundabout than others.
What's next for Quidditch Quandary
We want to create goal hoops on the top and bottom of the screen, and for the players to be able to score points by shooting Quaffles through the goal hoops. We plan to add a health bar and make the game more fluid.
