As incoming freshmen in UC Berkeley, a large public school with many students, meeting new people happens almost regularly. From our experiences, we thought that the method of exchanging contact information can be improved to be more streamlined and convenient
Our app allows users to integrate multiple social media accounts, phone numbers, names, etc. into one QR code that is automatically generated. Another user then uses the same app to scan the QR code, giving links to the different social media accounts/contact information.
There were numerous tribulations that we faced, mostly technical. Setting up the environment itself took time as we switched around Expo and React Native multiple times
We were proud of simply finishing a functional app that works the way we planned it to.
We learned that persistence is key. We had to also learn React Native from scratch and doing it within the span of fewer than two days is no easy feat.
We plan to implement many more features, including incorporating location and time information, keeping track of previously scanned users' information in local storage, and allowing users to take and save photos with others. This way, QuiConnect can be the new face of the default contacts app, containing not only names and phones, but also faces, locations, and more!
