Inspiration
High School students including us were the inspiration for our app. Every high school student has a very busy schedule, and the only good break time they get is lunch break where they sit with their friends, chill, and enjoy. But, even in that time, they have to wait in the long line to get their lunch from the cafeteria which is found annoying by many students. So, we thought, "Okay why don't we develop an app, through which high school students can pre order their lunch before their lunch time and then quickly go grab it so that they can enjoy their lunch time". This not not only saves the lunch time of high school students but also helps the cafeteria staff to estimate how much food they need to prepare which reduce the food wastage also.
What it does
Our app allows high school students to pre order their lunch before the lunch time by viewing different menu options and choosing among them according to their dietary preferences so that they can save their time and reduce the food wastage. Our app has been made keeping in mind about the people who need extra assistance like, if they have crutches, or they are carrying a lot, or go injured, or just need a hand, well our app helps them by delivering their food to their table. In this way our app is designed to help high school students out.
How we built it
We built it by first finalizing the idea, deciding the platform for our app, then we started building it using code.org. We first started with the UI part of our app, then we wrote the code for the app to run in javascript.
Challenges we ran into
The challenges we ran into were not able to run the app from the beginning, diffuculty in downloading our app into .apk form, and not being able to open the .apk file in our computer because our systems don't support that.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishments we are proud of are: Completing the app on time, learning a little bit of new language of code and implementing it in our app, fixing the issues with the help our intern Nachu, and our teamwork & collaboration.
What we learned
We learned a lot of new skills such as technical skills(coding and designing), soft skills such as teamwork, collaboration, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
What's next for QuickBite
The next things that we are aiming for quick bite is to allow the users to select particular times to pickup their orders, publishing into the market in real life, and making it available to all high school students. If the high school students don't have their phones then, we will create a website for this so that they can access it through that.
