Inspiration

Our inspiration for creating QUICK SUM stemmed from the desire to empower individuals facing the challenges of information overload and time constraints. We envisioned a tool that would enable everyone to quickly grasp the essence of any text, making knowledge accessible and consumption efficient.

What it does

QUICK SUM is a Chrome extension that revolutionizes online content consumption by summarizing lengthy articles, documents, and web pages into concise, easily comprehensible snippets. It empowers users to swiftly extract key insights, enabling efficient understanding without compromising on essential information.

How we built it

We brought QUICK SUM to life using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, harnessing the power of these web technologies to create an intuitive browsing experience. Our innovation was further enhanced by integrating an advanced text summarization API, using AI technology, which efficiently processes content and delivers accurate summaries.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the development process, we encountered a series of challenges that tested our determination. Integrating the AI Summarizer API into our extension posed a challenge for us as this would be our first time dealing with API. Sometimes the API just wouldn’t work at all or the requests wouldn’t send through, however, through determination to win this competition we spent hours relearning how API works and pulled through.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our proudest achievement is the creation of a user-friendly Chrome extension that streamlines content consumption. By fusing HTML for structural foundation, CSS for visually appealing UI, and JavaScript for functionality, we've achieved a harmonious balance. The successful integration of the AI Summarizer API empowers users to effortlessly distill lengthy content into concise summaries, revolutionizing the browsing experience.

What we learned

The journey to develop QUICK SUM was a rich learning experience for our team. We deepened our understanding of web technologies, honed our coding skills, and gained hands-on familiarity with API integration. Collaborating effectively, especially when faced with challenges, taught us the value of persistence and resourcefulness in innovation.

What's next for Quick Sum

With the foundation laid by QUICK SUM, our vision extends far beyond its current state. Feedback from users will drive iterative improvements. We will continue to modify and add new features to this tool. Some future developments we plan to add are summary keyword searches, short/lengthy summary options and comprehensibility levels, having an option to make summaries simple or more complex.

In essence, QUICK SUM is more than just a Chrome extension; it's a gateway to a more efficient and inclusive way of consuming online content.
