🎯 Inspiration
- Student chapters/societies are the best places to learn, collaborate and gain vital exposure at the college level.
- At our college, these societies are encouraged to organize regular events/meets that promote the development of a wide range of skill sets.
- After participating in student chapters ourselves, we noticed plenty of inconveniences in the system.
=> Acquiring permits for conducting events, using college resources (classrooms, computers, etc.), was a cumbersome process, with students having to submit hand-written application letters to authorities which then had to be approved by a host of teacher coordinators.
- This meant that said applications often took days to be processed and approved.
📝 What it does
⚫ The motive behind the project is to have a hassle-free system to seek permissions from college to simplify the otherwise cumbersome process observed.
The idea is that students can send permission requests to conduct events in college whereas teachers can approve or reject the requests.
⚫ Realizing the value that these societies bring to students, our team decided to come up with a technical solution that handles this entire process of acquiring permits, thus giving them the freedom to focus on what they do best -- collective development of students and the student community.
💻 How we built it
- We conducted meetings, discussed the plan (without the plan it would have been very difficult to proceed).
- We broke the whole project into different functionalities and these were distributed as tasks to all of the members of the team.
- We also maintained a list of all tasks to be done and checked each one as and when it was completed.
This helped us to understand the importance of management of a project
🛠 Challenges we ran into
- Understanding the existing process thoroughly.
- Collaborating and building the project together despite working remotely.
- Learning the technologies in a short span of time
⛳ Accomplishments that we're proud of
- The project was completed in the stipulated time and with effective collaboration between our entire team.
- Quick Permit completely digitizes the existing system and makes the entire process hassle-free for all the stakeholders involved.
- Our work will directly help our peers and batchmates, thus giving us a feeling of satisfaction for having made their lives just that little bit easier!
📍 What we learned
- The learning curve for this project was great!! Using Node.js at the start was a little intimidating, but we tried to manage by checking online resources, documentation and made use of other possible ways.
- We also thought of making things more efficient at many places and by loading only that data on the page which is required. This helped us understand how to optimize
- We explored a new framework => Bootstrap. And we found it really cool. It has many components already built and provides the functionality of customizing it as well
🔎 What's next for Quick Permit
Seeing through the implementation of the platform in our college. If it takes off, we plan to build an Android application for the same support from our college. In future, we can include collaboration features such as group chats, virtual notice boards etc to bring these student communities online.
