Inspiration
We wanted to streamline the texting process for people in time limited positions (like a delivery drivers), in an attempt to curb dangerous activities like texting while driving. Many people in professions like IT as well must type out instructions that would be better off in an organized/structured way to aid them in their troubleshooting efforts.
What it does
We make heavy use of the system clipboard obviously and allow users to simply tap the copy button or hold down on each quick clip they've made in order to copy the text into their clipboard.
How we built it
We utilized Firebase to store user data as well as authenticate users into their accounts. We built the application through android studio using a mixture of Java and basic XML.
Challenges we ran into
Two of our teammates weren't as familiar with android development, but we all learned together in making this application. There was a major issue with Gradle that caused some our client's SHA1 keys to not generate properly which stole an hour of time from us as we had to start a new project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to have a working Recycler View demo with persistent cloud storage tied to user accounts.
We're very proud of team members Adriana and Kiefer for making great strides in android development. They had no prior experience to developing android apps and made great contributions!
What we learned
We have newly expanded knowledge into android development.
We've experienced more about Firebase's real time database and query options available
What's next for Quick Clips
If more time permitted the team planned to make an iOS version that is integrated in the keyboard as an iMessage application for an even faster and seamless use.
