Inspiration

I enjoy travelling, and I often travel with my husband for his fitting work. During these journeys, we sometimes need a quick break, but it is not always easy to find a nearby service station.

Sometimes maps do not clearly show useful information such as rest stops, shops, EV charging points, or other facilities. This can make journeys stressful, especially when drivers need a safe place to stop.

This real problem gave me the idea for QuickBreak.

What it does

QuickBreak helps drivers find nearby service stations and useful facilities during their journey. It can show places such as rest stops, shops, and EV charging points.

The app also includes voice commands, so drivers can use it more safely without needing to type while travelling.

How I built it

I built QuickBreak using MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js. I used map and location APIs to help find nearby service stations.

I also added a voice assistant called Bexxa. Bexxa uses browser speech recognition and speech synthesis so users can search using voice commands.

Challenges I faced

One challenge was working with location data and trying to show useful nearby results. Another challenge was making the voice commands work smoothly in the browser.

What I learned

I learned more about connecting APIs, building full-stack features, and making an app that solves a real-life problem. I also learned how voice interaction can make an app easier and safer to use.

What's next

Next, I would like to add live parking or EV charging availability, user reviews, and better navigation support.
