Inspiration
I use Q and A sites on a daily basis, like Quora. They are great for getting opinions from experts and questions are answered sometimes in minutes.
I rely so heavily on these sites and I don't have any issues using the internet to get answers. There is nothing available on Alexa to use the power of the internet in this way.
What it does
The user submits a question to the skill. This question is put on a Q & A site. Later on the user goes back to the skill and can listen to the top answer for that question.
How I built it
Most of the popular Q and A sites don't have a publicly accessible API. I don't blame them, it would be easy to put a facade on the front and call it something else.
I got around this by using puppeteer and emulating a browser doing the actions of adding a question and looking up the browser
Challenges I ran into
The sites are really made for people to scrape information from them so much of my time was figuring out which css selectors I could use to add the question and retrieve the answer.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
It took some time to make, I'm just happy it worked and I got a first version out the door.
What I learned
Be persistent, you will get there in the end!
What's next for Question Master
I want to add more Q and A sites to post on to get more coverage and I want to add notifications when the question has been answered.
