Inspiration
Well, I don’t have much symbolic inspiration to create Quenox. I remember all this happened about one or two years ago, I wanted to start a quantum cryptography company but a friend (ChatGPT) warned me that I should start from the bottom, from industrial cybersecurity. Since then, I’ve been getting closer and closer to that dream, it’s just that it won’t be about quantum cryptography for now...
What it does
It's cybersecurity. It detects physical movement by recording it in centimeters on the computer. If it detects an object coming closer than 5 to 3 centimeters, the ultrasonic sensor connected with jumpers to an Arduino will send a signal to warn of an anomaly.
How we built it
The hardware works with a breadboard so you don't have to solder, 4 jumpers, 4 replacement wires, an Arduino UNO R3, and an ultrasonic sensor HC. For the software, you need Visual Studio Code with Python installed along with many C++ extensions. Set up Python to read Arduino by installing the Arduino IDE. And just two lines of code. And there are still a few details missing.
Challenges we ran into
The software topic was too confusing, especially setting up Visual Studio Code (Python) to receive a signal from the Arduino. That took me about three days. I didn't understand why the code had like 7 errors. Also, you need the willpower to get all the objects. But I think the biggest difficulty was having the willpower to dedicate one or two hours to work on this engineering project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I've been proud for the reasons that I was able to use my anonymous hours to leave my university and go to the closest electronics stores to buy all the items I need—that's definitely what makes me the proudest. Also being able to understand hardware and firmware in C++ at this age.
What we learned
I learned things I never expected to learn in my life; like what an Arduino is, about firmware, hardware, and software. How conductivity passes through cables. Long codes, very precise construction. Quite specific things to start in this engineering.
What's next for Quenox: Anomaly detector.
Well, Quenox isn’t my only project. Quenox is my project #3; #2 is about a hybrid system, and #1 is a factory simulation. But I chose to finish the hardest of the three. And those aren’t my only cards. I know that by merging these projects, I’m creating the greatest one, a Sentinel. A real-time simulation network that in the future could be used in a real work environment, but I’m still working on that.
