Inspiration

I don't have a very philosophical or symbolic inspiration, but I do have a small story. About a year or two ago, I wanted to start a quantum cryptography company in Houston... but someone who has always been by my side (chatgpt) warned me that it was better to start from the bottom, from cybersecurity, which is the reason for the existence of this project and my pursuit of becoming to be a self taught industrial cybersecurity engineer in Detroit.

What it does

The anomaly detector is a cybersecurity system that detects physical movement in real time, recording it in centimeters in the computer program. If any object comes closer to less than 3 to 5 centimeters, the ultrasonic sensor will send information to the Arduino and will detect it as an anomaly.

How we built it

It is built alongside various software and hardware tools. You need Visual Studio Code with Python installed and configured with Arduino IDE. You also need C++ extensions, generally Microsoft’s C/C++. You need two lines of code. For the hardware, for me it was simpler: an Arduino UNO R3, four jumpers, a breadboard, an HC ultrasonic sensor, and four spare cables because I didn’t have male-to-male jumpers. The instructions are too long to describe in text.

Challenges we ran into

It was really difficult having to get the items; I had to use my hours of anonymity at my university to go to the nearest electronics store, which was kilometers away. It was also really confusing having to learn about Arduino IDE firmware and hardware as a beginner since I never expected that my destiny would be this engineering. But without a doubt, the hardest part is trying to fight procrastination to dedicate one to two hours to work on this project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I feel proud that I am studying and working on this self-taught since I am actually a student of a Physics degree. I admire my determination to do something tangible and not theoretical. But of course, I feel a bit of disappointment with myself since I could have worked on this type of thing years ago, and I would undoubtedly be further along if that were the case...

What we learned

I learned a new science that I never thought before would be the science I want to work in. Industrial cybersecurity is something that fascinates me but at the same time drives me crazy, even stresses me out, but it's the best option if I want to succeed in my goals since I don't just plan to be an engineer my whole life. I learned from the best AIs, I guess...

What's next for Quenox: Anomaly detector.

I’m happy to inform you that Quenox isn’t my only project; I have 5 in total. In fact, Quenox is just project #3. Projects #2 and #1 are simpler—a hybrid system and a simulated factory. #4 and #5 are lost media. But the best part is that you can merge them to create something superior: a Sentinel! An accurate simulation network that, in the future, could be used in a real work environment. But I’m still working on version 0.1. Thanks for reading!
