💡🦆 Inspiration

We started off this project by targeting users to get annoyed and make people confused. But, at the same time, we want to do something that will be simply useful for us in our daily life and something that authentically presents us, the "QUEK-IT developers".

So, based on the social problems that we encounter, we decide to do something that changes our text messages, and as we want to reflect our personality and suit our vibe, we decided to use the duck as our mascot.

Rather than changing the text messages into very professional ones, and pleasing other people while we are mad (it can make the user angrier), we decided to convert them into annoying duck gibberish words and make other people get confused and annoyed.

Just think about it. We can say whatever we want. Our friendship, relationship, and jobs will still be surviving. We can annoy them while we are mad because of them with the bare minimum regret once we are back in a normal mood. It is of course 100% better than ruining the days of all other people and yourself in one heated conversation.

🔍🦆 What it does

Our web extension will automatically change most of the words you write into either gibberish or the Quek Language.

Our primary target audience will be all individuals who struggle with controlling their anger, send harsh messages impulsively, tend to text excessively when under the influence of alcohol, and later regret their actions.

By using our web extension, they can relieve their stress and anger up to a certain amount by texting as rudely as possible without worrying that the other party will get offended and chase after them.

🔧🦆 How we built it

Tech we used:

  • Typescript
  • Javascript
  • Prisma
  • Next JS
  • TRPC
  • Postgres SQL

🏃🏻‍♀️🦆 Challenges we ran into

Zay - first time building a chrome extension so he ran into several problems such as cors and typescript in the deployment and setup.

Swaathi - had a lot of doubt about our idea, given it is very simple compared to our fellow participants. Also, this is the first time I have taken part in coding an extension.

Su - never used typescript before so she had problems in writing the algorithm using typescript.

Su, Thinzar - Async, promise

🏅🦆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We didn't quit halfway. As this is our very first hackathon, this is something that I am really proud of.
  • We were able to finish up the web extension to the presentable level.
  • Our algorithm is also surviving and working precisely enough.
  • We successfully achieved our intended purpose of this project.

🧠🦆 What we learned

  • We learned how to build Next JS web application with Typescript and TRPC.
  • We learned how to create a Chrome web extension.
  • We learned how to communicate with each other and how to work more efficiently as a team.

⏭️🦆 What's next for QUEK-IT

  • We will enhance user interaction by implementing Natural Language Processing (NLP) to analyze the sentiment of the text messages.

  • Based on the current Silly Quack version, our future roadmap will include different versions such as Angry Quek or Sad Quek, allowing users to tailor their experience.

  • Our future goal is to dynamically adjust the language, replacing the potentially damaging words with suitable alternatives without altering the overall meaning by using NLP.

  • In scenarios where users express frustration or use harsh language, our system will soften the tone and substitute milder words, ensuring meaningful communication while promoting positive interactions.
