👑 QueensQuest – A Daily Logic Adventure on Reddit
💡 Inspiration
We were inspired by the classic N-Queens puzzle — a timeless logic challenge where queens must be placed on a chessboard without threatening each other.
Seeing the success of Sudoku and word games on Reddit, we wanted to create something equally addictive but unique to Reddit’s Devvit platform.
The idea: merge the elegance of chess, the thrill of daily puzzles, and the power of community discussion into one experience.
🎮 What it does
QueensQuest is a daily interactive logic puzzle built for Reddit.
Players place queens on the board so that:
- ✅ Only one queen per row, column, and region
- ❌ No two queens touch, not even diagonally
Every day brings a fresh puzzle, posted directly to the community. Players can:
- 🧩 Solve puzzles inside Reddit posts
- 📊 Climb leaderboards and track streaks
- 💬 Share strategies, tips, and “aha!” moments
- 🏆 Compete in challenges and community events
🛠️ How we built it
- Built with Reddit Devvit Web for seamless integration inside interactive posts.
- React + Phaser power the board logic, interactions, and animations.
- A puzzle generator engine ensures new, solvable boards daily.
- Leaderboards and discussion threads are automatically linked to each day’s post.
- Custom branding (banner, icon, lore) built around the Queen’s Quest theme.
⚔️ Challenges we ran into
- ⚡ Optimizing board validation to run smoothly inside Reddit’s environment.
- 🎨 Designing a UI that feels native to Reddit but still stands out as a game.
- 🧮 Generating puzzles of balanced difficulty (not too easy, not impossible).
- 🔗 Syncing daily puzzles across posts while keeping them spoiler-free.
- 🧪 Testing in private vs. public subreddits and ensuring Devvit compliance.
🏅 Accomplishments we’re proud of
- 🎉 Created a fully functional Reddit-native puzzle game.
- 🧩 Built a daily puzzle system that auto-refreshes with new boards.
- 👑 Developed a unique brand identity (QueensQuest community, banner, icon).
- 📈 Integrated leaderboards + streaks to boost competition.
- 🤝 Designed with community-first gameplay so players can discuss and share solves.
📚 What we learned
- 🚀 How to leverage Devvit Web for building interactive Reddit games.
- 🎭 The power of community-driven design: puzzles are fun, but sharing them makes them better.
- 🧠 Balancing puzzle difficulty is as much art as math.
- ✨ Small polish (icons, banners, copywriting) can transform a prototype into a real product.
🔮 What’s next for QueensQuest
- 🛠️ User-Generated Boards: let redditors craft and share their own puzzles.
- 🔑 Quest Mode: multi-day adventures with lore, progressive puzzles, and unlockables.
- 🎖️ Achievements & Streaks: badges, crowns, and milestones for loyal players.
- 💎 Premium Layers with Reddit Payments API: skins, puzzle packs, or custom boards.
- 🌍 Grow r/QueensQuest into the hub for all things queen puzzles, strategy, and community play.
