Inspiration
There are many who don't have the privilege of attending online classes. India and many other countries have children who don't have the resources to attend school from home. Recently my housemaid mentioned how her son could not attend classes because they didn't have enough money to buy a laptop. This made me want to do something for him and kids alike.
What it does
Quarantimes Classrooms is a solution that can help many students. Most households in India have a smartphone with mobile data. Many of these families don't have enough money to afford a laptop and wifi. Quarantimes classroom is a platform that uses voice over along with other interactive features such as a chat box, polls and document sharing but uses a lower bandwidth compared to other platforms and hence can be accessed by most around the world. Even if you have only data and no wifi, you will be able to attend class.
How I built it
I thought about the problems people have been facing more recently. I realised that there are many people in India who don't even get the privilege to attend classes and thought that instead of creating something that might better our learning experience, providing that basic experience to the millions around the world would be more valuable to me even though it may be harder. I thought of the resources that such kids might have and came up with a solution using the limited resources.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was thinking of a solution that could help children with fewer resources. Solutions such as Quarantimes classrooms can bring the classroom home in so many households.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
My biggest accomplishment was being able to come up for a solution for people with lesser resources and even though this may be hard to achieve, it can help so many kids around the world.
What I learned
I really liked the web design workshop I attended. The prompt also made me think about my privileges and the problems people might be facing daily because of Covid-19.
What's next for Quarantimes Classroom
Making quarantimes classroom more accessible is probably next. Reaching a lower bandwidth is definitely the goal so that more and more children can attend classes.
