Quantum Encrypter

Inspiration

The idea of true randomness and the biggest concern in quantum computing: security.

What it does

It encrypts and decrypts passwords at the quantum level to ensure cybersecurity.

How we built it

We used qiskit, anaconda, and HTML.

Challenges we ran into

Everything. It was quite difficult to learn an entirely new way of computing in 36 hours.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning three new languages in the time of the hackathon.

What we learned

We learned three new languages and the theory/application of quantum computing.

What's next for Quantum Encrypter

We plan on finishing the HTML integration with the Python code and improving the communication between classical and quantum computers

I researched current methods of post-quantum cryptography as well as quantum cryptography. I also developed my understanding of qubits and their functions

I did the research on how quantum computers function from the most basic level including how photons are able to represent 1s, 0s and superpositions through energy levels and reference frames, the types of logic gates that can be implemented, how quantum entanglement works and is applied, and more. I then realized that with quantum computing technology it could be possible to actually program what we currently consider to be true randomness (this was later confirmed by Spencer during his presentation). With this I tried to think of applications of true randomness which led us to an encryption program. Brainstorming and research aside, I also attempted to create a website with a sign up and a login page to test out our program. To do this I taught myself html, css and javascript. Sadly the integration of this portion was not able to be used, however I learned a lot from it so I am happy regardless. Overall this project got me really excited about quantum computers and I already have several ideas for personal projects that will use qiskit.
