Inspiration
Our project was inspired by recent events in the mining industry, particularly the severe flooding that affected Kazatomprom's uranium mining operations in Kazakhstan in 2024. This incident highlighted how natural disasters and climate-related events can significantly impact mining operations and, consequently, global markets. The uranium market's volatility following the Kazakhstan floods demonstrated the critical need for better risk assessment tools in the mining sector, especially after Kazatomprom, the world's largest uranium producer, had to temporarily suspend operations.
What it does
QuantOre is a sophisticated data analytics platform that:
- Analyzes historical data from major mining operations worldwide
- Tracks environmental risks and their impact on mining operations
- Provides predictive insights for mining companies' stock performance
- Visualizes correlations between natural disasters and mining productivity
- Offers real-time monitoring of mining operations across different commodities (uranium, lithium, copper, etc.)
How we built it
We developed QuantOre using:
- Python for data analysis and machine learning models
- JavaScript for frontend visualization
- CSV data integration from multiple mining companies including BHP, Cameco, and Franco-Nevada
- Custom data processing pipeline for analyzing mining operation patterns
- Interactive web interface for data visualization and risk assessment
Challenges we ran into
- Managing and processing large datasets from multiple mining operations
- Integrating diverse data sources with different formatting and structures
- Developing accurate predictive models for complex market behaviors
- Creating meaningful visualizations that effectively communicate risk patterns
