If 2020 taught us anything, it is to expect the unexpected. Things can fall apart in ways you never imagined and we can be caught unprepared if we do not plan ahead. This is especially the case with supply chains at every level — local, regional, national and global. With shortages of essential items including basic food items being the norm at various stages of the pandemic, and more recently during the winter storms of February 2021, we have no choice but to accept the fact that our current systems do not hold up. While there has been a lot of talk over the last decade about busting silos and harnessing inter-company data, the complex nature of implementing such a comprehensive solution has left it pending on everyone’s wish list, until the lack of such a solution has caused considered pain and financial losses.
What it does
Quacoon is a decentralized supply chain platform, built on Quantum, AI and Blockchain technologies that provides collaborative supply chain intelligence for building and managing resilient and sustainable supply chains, as well as enabling efficient control of global supply chains beyond the silos with commerce crypto tokens.
How we built it
We built Quacoon using the Microsoft .NET Stack, in combination with SQL Server relational databases and Neo4J graph databases, in the format of a social network. A combination of quantum annealing and AI algorithms provide real-time intelligence, while the Silk crypto token on the Neo blockchain enables control of tasks and actions across the global supply chain via a reward/penalty model. Some of the features of this proposed solution will include real time demand and supply planning ecosystem, end to end traceability and analytics, alerts and news from the ecosystem for timely decisions and uberization of trucks, warehouses and resources. A significant feature is the ability to integrate with existing systems.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we ran into included getting all the different technologies, some of which were incompatible with each other, to work together smoothly. Significant time was spent on ramping up our knowledge and skills on emerging technologies such as quantum annealing and the Neo blockchain. Working with real life pilot customers helped with some of the data challenges, as well as understanding the real world requirements.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Quacoon was selected as a startup partner by a number of organizations, including Google Cloud, Neo4J, and OneQuantum. We are also proud to be working with a grocery chain based in Ohio to bring this platform to production.
What we learned
We learned that there is an urgent requirement for this innovative solution, based on market research interviews with supply chain leaders at 12 different organizations. We also learned that while our approach of using cryptotokens in this manner is new as opposed to DeFi and NFTs, there is a huge potential for solving large scale problems with this approach.
What's next for Quacoon
Our vision for the next ten years is to have Silk be the underlying nervous system for the global supply chain system.
