Inspiration

Our aim is to utilize the latest advancements in natural language processing to create a unique and effective platform that transforms the learning experience for all students, particularly those with disabilities. With inspiration from the principles of accessibility and inclusion, we strive to develop features that cater to the diverse needs of all learners. Our project is driven by the potential for innovation in educational technology, and we believe that by leveraging this potential, we can simplify the learning process for students and ensure equal access to education for all.

What it does

Our platform simplifies the learning process for students, by generating personalized lecture transcripts, overviews, to-do lists, and quizzes from uploaded audio recordings. We utilize the Google Cloud Speech-to-Text API to accurately convert audio to transcript text and the Co:here Generate API to create personalized content. The quizzes can be generated based on different difficulty levels such as easy, medium, and hard, providing students with a tailored learning experience.

How we built it

To develop this platform, we used the React.js framework to build a web application. We integrated the Google Cloud Speech-to-Text API and the Cohere Generate API to ensure accuracy and reliability. The Cohere Generate API makes use of natural language processing to do text summarization, to generate personalized to-do lists, overviews, and quizzes. We also performed extensive prompt engineering to generate high-quality content. Our team worked collaboratively, combining our expertise in programming and education to create a platform that meets the needs of students with disabilities and provides equal access to education for all.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced during the development of our platform was integrating different components, particularly integrating the Google Cloud Speech-to-Text API and Co:here Generate API with the React.js framework. Additionally, the Co:here Generate API required extensive prompt engineering to generate quality content.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our accomplishments include leveraging multiple APIs to incorporate the latest natural language processing technologies and solve a real-world problem. We are thrilled to have improved the learning experience for students with disabilities by providing personalized content. Additionally, we are proud of the clean and intuitive user interface we have created to facilitate ease of use and accessibility for all students.

What we learnt

We learnt that integrations are hard! In addition to the challenges we faced during development, we also learnt the importance of effective communication and collaboration within a team. We found that regularly discussing and addressing issues as they arise helped us overcome obstacles more efficiently. Additionally, we learnt the value of proper time management and organization to ensure project milestones were met on time.

What's next for Quackademic Homeroom

In the future, we aim to further improve our platform by incorporating more advanced natural language processing techniques and expanding our language support to make education more accessible for students across the globe. We also plan to integrate more features such as real-time feedback to enhance the learning experience even further.
