On Mars every kilogram of payload costs millions of dollars. When the original solar array was destroyed by a rogue meteor our objective was to rebuild the grid using the absolute minimum number of resources possible while still meeting all the requirements. We wanted to find the exact mathematical floor for survival, proving that precision engineering can save a mission without relying on bloated, over-engineered safety nets.
