Inspiration

Qripocalypse was inspired by the idea of simplifying development workflows by combining coding, version control, deployment, and documentation into a single AI-assisted environment. Instead of juggling multiple tools, the goal was to showcase how Kiro can unify everything into one cohesive development experience.

What it does

Qripocalypse is a lightweight platform that generates and manages QR-based content while showcasing full integration with Kiro’s capabilities. The app includes authentication, local storage handling, portal enhancements, GitHub pages integration, and a clean interface—all powered through Kiro’s AI-driven development workflow.

How we built it

We built Qripocalypse using a combination of vibe coding, spec-driven development, hooks, and steering within Kiro. Vibe coding helped create UI components and layout designs quickly through conversational prompts. Specs provided structured blueprints for authentication, storage, deployment pages, and portal improvements. Hooks automated tasks like updating documentation after each save. Steering ensured consistent output by enforcing rules such as using .jsx files and maintaining a defined project style.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenges were keeping the project aligned across multiple iterations and ensuring Kiro generated consistent code at scale. Handling file formats, avoiding test files, maintaining UI consistency, and refining the GitHub integration pages required balancing vibe coding with more structured specs. Integrating automated hooks without breaking workflows also took careful planning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of how seamlessly Kiro integrated into every part of development—automating documentation, generating UI sections, improving deployments, and enhancing multiple pages with minimal manual intervention. Creating a fully functional QR portal with clean design and maintaining consistent .jsx formatting throughout the project was a major milestone.

What we learned

We learned how powerful Kiro becomes when combining vibe coding for creativity, specs for structure, hooks for automation, and steering for consistency. Each part of Kiro complements the others, creating a far smoother development experience compared to traditional methods. We also gained insights into maintaining coherent workflows, enforcing project rules, and letting AI guide large parts of the build process.

What's next for Qripocalypse

Next, we plan to expand Qripocalypse with more interactive QR features, user customization options, and improved deployment pipelines. We aim to integrate deeper automation with Kiro hooks, enhance the portal design further, and potentially open the platform for community-driven QR tools and extensions.
