Inspiration

I got tired of the same frustrating experience everyone has with QR codes: you see a QR code in a screenshot, photo, or old picture, but your phone’s built-in camera can’t scan it because it only works in live mode. Native iPhone/Android scanners also give zero history, no safety checks, and no way to revisit or organize the hundreds of QR codes we scan every month.

I thought: “There has to be a better, more modern QR app.” That’s how Qrblox was born — a beautiful, AI-powered QR hub that treats every QR code like something worth remembering.

What it does

How I built it

Solo indie project from Virginia Beach, VA iOS App: SwiftUI (iPhone + iPad)
Web & Desktop Generator: React + Next.js
Backend: Node.js + Express + TypeScript
Database & Storage: Firebase Firestore + Storage
AI Layer: OpenAI GPT-4o (summaries + function-calling for chat-with-website)
Payments: Stripe + Apple In-App Purchases
Auth: Firebase Auth + Sign in with Apple/Google
Analytics: Mixpanel

Challenges I ran into

Reliable QR detection from blurry/low-quality screenshots (solved with multiple decoding engines + ML preprocessing)
Real-time “chat with any website” without full crawling (solved with smart function calling)
Keeping AI features fast on older devices
