Inspiration

I was inspired by my family members and neighbors who have kids and have to deal with a lot of things during this pandemic. With schools being online, mothers are now expected to do housewiving, work from home (in some instances) and also make sure their kids who might be young and need attention to attend class every day. So by exchanging parents with locals using safe methods like zoom, they can use their time wisely to help their children. Because kids might feel very connected to their parents and not listen or treat them the way they do to their teachers at school.

What it does

Quarantine Pals ( Qpals) is an ios app built to help parents/family, who may feel stressed during this difficult time as things have moved mostly virtual. It connects you with locals who you may chat and help each other if necessary. I was inspired by "Next door" but I realized that immigrant families may not go on apps like next door due to language barriers. So I will make sure QPals is accessible to everyone and very easy to use so that people with less tech knowledge will dare to utilize it as well.

How I built it

I used Xcode and swift to build it using Cocoapods/Parse. I used Canva for the design of the logo.

Challenges I ran into

I had a problem downloading Parse and Pods in the terminal. Also adding AlamofireImage and MessagingKit, but I was able to figure it out through search and just by trying several times.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am very proud of taking the step to participate in this hackathon alone and starting a project that I am very passionate about. I am happy Technica was my starting point

What I learned

I learned how to apply Messaging Kit, Swift and searching for resources online.

What's next for QPals

I am happy that Technica was my starting point for this project. I plan on working on it as a side project and hopefully will achieve my dream of putting it on the Apple store.
