Inspiration

Qofa was inspired by a challenge we noticed among small businesses: getting online is only the beginning. Many merchants rely on disconnected tools for their storefront, customer interactions, sales, and analytics, making it difficult to understand what is actually happening in their business. We wanted to create something that makes digital business ownership simpler and more useful, starting with small businesses in Morocco.

What it does

Qofa is an all-in-one digital business platform that helps merchants build, manage, and understand their business. Merchants can create and customize their own digital storefront, receive a Qofa-linked business address, manage their online presence, monitor performance and traffic sources, and access AI-powered business intelligence. Instead of simply presenting numbers, Qofa helps merchants understand what their data means and what they can do next.

How we built it

We built Qofa as a web-based prototype using Python and Flask for the application structure, with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript powering the interface and interactive experience. We designed the platform around a complete merchant journey, from multilingual onboarding and business registration to storefront creation, subscription, analytics, and business intelligence. The prototype currently supports English, French, and Arabic and was designed with Morocco as its first market while keeping future African expansion in mind.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was connecting several different experiences into one simple journey. Qofa is not only a website builder or an analytics dashboard, so the merchant experience needed to remain intuitive while moving between onboarding, storefront customization, subscriptions, analytics, and AI assistance. Multilingual support also introduced challenges, particularly maintaining consistent functionality and layout when switching between English, French, and right-to-left Arabic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that Qofa evolved from an idea into an interactive end-to-end prototype rather than remaining only a concept. We built a multilingual merchant onboarding experience, customizable digital storefront concept, subscription flow, merchant dashboard, consumer-facing experience, analytics capabilities, and an AI business assistant. Most importantly, these features contribute to one connected vision rather than functioning as unrelated tools.

What we learned

Building Qofa taught us that digital inclusion is about more than giving businesses access to technology. Technology also has to make information understandable and actionable. We learned the importance of designing around the merchant's entire journey and of building for local realities such as language, currency, accessibility, and different levels of technical experience. We also learned the value of starting with a focused market instead of attempting to solve every regional challenge at once.

What's next for Qofa

Morocco is Qofa's starting point, not its boundary. Our next steps are to validate the platform with real merchants, strengthen Qofa's AI-powered business intelligence, integrate production-ready payments and commerce infrastructure, and expand the data sources merchants can connect. From there, we envision adapting Qofa to additional African markets through localized currencies, languages, payment methods, and business needs, building toward accessible digital infrastructure for small businesses across the continent.
