Inspiration
As CS majors at Purdue, our team has noticed a lack of a creativity outlet at Purdue. Something that's always been a joy to see are the whiteboards around campus covered in doodles, the odd math equation, and little shoutouts for friends and strangers alike. Our project bridges the gap between CS and whiteboard joy, in the form of a little QR code.
What it does
Q-Art-Code aims to offer a simple creative outlet for people at any time or any place. Simply put up one of our flyers, complete with a QR code and a drawing prompt. Scan the QR code with your phone and it will take you to a simple sketchpad. Draw your best response to the prompt, then hit submit! We will create a composite image of all the responses to the prompt.
How we built it
We built this in React using a MERN stack and using Heroku.
Challenges we ran into
With a project with so many libraries and plenty of branches, we ran into lots of issues regarding merge conflicts and other wonders of git. There was also the massive hurdle of the perfect sketch platform for our needs: simple, phone-compatible, and not buggy. For most of us, this was the first time we were using certain platforms, and this weekend has been quite the crash-course!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of being able to complete the project, and our overall performance as a team! For some of us, this is our first true foray into hack-a-thons, and we operated smoothly despite the challenges.
What we learned
We learned a lot of React, routing, and general backend development.
What's next for Q Art Code
Next we will fix some minor bugs and provide a simple flyer generation.
