Inspiration
Its expected to have 4.5 million pilgrims by 2030, efficiently managing the crowd is going to be crucial and challenging.
We need an innovative way to solve the crowd management challenges as well as accommodate more guest of Allah.
What it does
Think of every Pilgrim possessing a band, which will be the ultimate crowd managing solution for pilgrims as well as Hajj organizer.
Story of the Pilgrim
Pilgrim can scan his band at Kiosks set at various locations which guides pilgrim with the easiest way to his camp and access to emergency services.
Story of the Organiser
Organiser setup High Range Readers at multiple key location (same like Salik Toll Gates in Dubai) and collects data about every individual pilgrim, and with the help of Big Data Analysis, system understands the crowd at specific areas with the help of heat maps, and will be able to drill down to individual pilgrims last seen location to handle lost and found cases.
This act as a tool to plan and give instructions for crowd management.
How we built it
We are using a wide range of tech stack
Since building RFID solution during Hackathon is not feasible, we have developed the POC using QR codes.
For Kiosk / Volunteer app, we have cross-platform Android and iOS app developed in Xamarin Forms.
Our backend is powered using .NET Core and hosted in containers in GCP.
We use BigQuery in GCP to analyze the data generated by various Kiosk, Volunteer Device, and our Toll Gate equivalent hardware and generate heat maps, it also helps to drill down into specific pilgrims details when in need like what's their last seen location to handle cases like Lost and Found
Challenges we ran into
Building RFID or generating a high amount of data for BigQuery was challenging. Since we don't have enough data for simulating BigData, we use normal CloudSQL in GCP for the prototype application
We will be simulating the scenarios with pre-made dummy data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building an efficient tool to help Lost Pilgrims which are a common scenario during Hajj.
What we learned
Implementing GCP, usage of Docker-based containers to host application
What's next for Q-067-FC
The same tracking solution can be used to identify Illegal pilgrims.
