Inspiration
Our inspiration comes from a quiet struggle we see all around us in Singapore. So many of our parents and grandparents want to stay in their own homes, but their children are busy building careers and raising families. We read that 73% of elderly here prefer to age at home, but for 62%, consistent check-ins just aren't possible.
We noticed something important. While the world races towards smartphones, a whole generation is being left behind. Over 180,000 seniors here own a desktop computer from their working days, but they never quite made the leap to a tiny phone screen.
So we asked a simple question: what if we didn't ask them to learn something new? What if we met them exactly where they already are, every single morning? We wanted to transform that simple, familiar ritual of turning on the computer and checking email into something more. Into a moment of genuine care, a friendly chat that also quietly looks out for them. We wanted to build a bridge using the technology they already know, turning a routine into a connection.
What it does
MindMate is a friendly AI companion that lives on a senior's desktop computer. Each morning, when they start their computer, it starts a short, natural conversation—asking about sleep, meals, and mood. It turns everyday chat into structured health insights, provides immediate, gentle reminders based on Health Promotion Board guidelines, and quietly monitors for patterns. If it detects something concerning, like several days of poor sleep, it can send a simple, respectful summary to a family member. It empowers seniors to maintain their independence while giving their families peace of mind, all without requiring them to learn anything new.
