Inspiration
My inspiration for pyro were the California wildfires that destroyed homes. In fact, around 90,000 homes have been destroyed due to wildfires in 15 years alone. This is devastating for families and thus I had to find a way to prevent these
What it does
It allows satellites in outer space to send pictures to our google collab and shows these wildfires in a map of the earth.
How we built it
I used TensorFlow ai to create the machine learning model to detect the wildfires. I then stored all the wildfires in a database called Firebase. Lastly, I took the data and displayed it onto a map using an API called google maps API from google.
Challenges we ran into
I ran into many bugs including with Firebase and Google Maps. It was also very hard to get a working model for wildfire detection.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Some accomplishments I am proud of include: making a great app and learning new things and how to use them such as the Google Maps API
What we learned
I learned how to use the Google Maps API, how to use CDNs and how to use Firebase with python.
What's next for Pyro
I think that pyro could be expanded by adding information on whether fires are allowed in certain areas around the world. Also, I think adding information on how to prevent a forest fire before it starts would be good. Lastly, I think that pyro could use a camera to detect wildfires instead of just using pictures.
