Our goal was to design a fast-paced, competitive online mixed-reality experience that leverages passthrough and the advanced motion-tracking capabilities of Meta Quest 3/3S. The initial inspiration for the project came from popular mobile games where two archers face each other in a 2D environment. We wanted to adapt that simple yet engaging concept into mixed reality and reimagine it in full 3D, using natural player movement and spatial awareness to elevate the experience far beyond its original format.

We set out to create an engaging archery-duel experience built around natural player motion, clear game rules, and strong visual and audio feedback that reinforces the round-based dynamics.

The project began as our team’s first XR production — a way to establish a complete development pipeline and gain practical experience with building for the platform. As the project evolved, it became clear that the concept had significantly greater potential: internal testing demonstrated strong player engagement, scalability, and the foundation for a meaningful competitive ecosystem.

Short-term implementation roadmap

Our upcoming updates focus on refining the core gameplay loop, improving situational awareness, and enhancing immersion:

  • adaptive spawn points (randomized each round),
  • a hit-feedback system showing the opponent’s final position and rotation,
  • an expanded round-communication package (countdown, final round, win/loss indicators),
  • heartbeat intensity scaling based on remaining lives,
  • UI improvements and enhanced hit visualization,
  • new difficulty levels in the Practice Tool,
  • extended audio design,
  • new projectile types (fire and ice),
  • three balloon types with improved animations and differentiated scoring.

The ranking system is already live. In the short term, we also plan to launch the cosmetic shop — the purchasing logic and player-profile integration are complete; we are finalizing the visual assets.

Long-term development plans

Our long-term roadmap includes:

  • a Tournament Mode with elimination brackets,
  • expansion of the cosmetic shop with full collections of bow and character skins,
  • additional PvP modes and training modules,
  • deeper mixed-reality integration while maintaining safety and clarity of gameplay.

Our goal is to deliver a fully developed game that makes meaningful and effective use of the Meta Quest 3/3S capabilities, including passthrough and natural mixed-reality interaction.
