Putfoodin.me serves as a tool for college students to find local events where free food will be served.
We initially started putfoodin.me as a social oriented application due to the fact that college students love free food and social interaction. There is no doubt when free food is offered at an event, it correlates with and generates high foot traffic, especially on a college campus. Students can search for these free food events on our website, as well as use our real-time voting system to allow them to see the popularity of an event.
In order to scale our application, we plan to expand our target audience from hungry college students to a non-profit organization aimed at helping people who are in need of food. Our business model essentially is a marketing platform that provides more direct foot traffic conversions.
We began development in a WAMP server, and soon moved it to Microsoft’s Azure to allow for online hosting. We integrated Google Map’s API into our application as well. This application was built using SQL, jQuery, Javascript, PHP, HTML, and CSS.
After LA Hacks, we will be implementing more features such as Facebook integration to provide a safer and more credible community of users, expanding the user base, and continuing to pursue the application and building it into a startup.
