Inspiration

The inspiration for this projects stems from the disparity in educational resources among students in the Philippines. In many communities, especially farther out from the major cities, many students do not have the income to access basic learning materials like textbooks, writing materials, and other essential resources. While their more affluent peers have plenty of these resources, they remain unused once no longer needed. This imbalance highlights not just the educational progress between well off and low income students but also the wanton wastage of resources. The drive to bridge this gap and spreading the Filipino culture of "bayanihan", a representation of communal unity and cooperation, has led to the inception of this website. By promoting equity with regards to the distribution of unused educational resources, we aim to ensure that every student, regardless of financial background, has the opportunity to succeed

What it does

Webapp that acts as a Portal for low income students to post/request for the materials they need, and for the others to either respond to these posts or post their own books and materials that they are willing to donate.

How we built it

HTML, CSS, Javascript, jinjia, python, flask

Challenges we ran into

After the prompt of the hackathon was given, our very first challenge was deciding what kind of project we would like to do. This was especially since we all had different ideas of what we could do as a team. Other challenges we faced includes learning new languages and balancing time management between the hackathon and school work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Were proud that we were able to successfully create the website with user friendly interface such that even those not familiar could utilize the platform

What we learned

Learned about working as a team, new coding languages and develop already existing ones.

What's next for Puso't Tulong

We aim to include improvements to the UI, integrating advanced security features, and implementing a notification system. Additionally we hope to establish partnerships with schools or NGOs.
