During the covid pandemic, many people have been having a lack of exercise due to the conditions. Many health risks occur with an inactive lifestyle such as obesity, heart diseases, high blood pressure, and many more. This pandemic increased the severity of exercise because of covid. People have gained 1.5 pounds on average per month during the covid pandemic shelter in place. I came up with the push-up counter to help with at-home training. I want more people to work out at home easily without the worry of the pandemic. This can help lose the pounds many people gained. I want to encourage people to work out by adding a calorie tracker to give them a goal. This device was inspired by our PE classes online at school. I saw how hard it was in order to exercise in a small space at home. I found out the importance of exercise with our PE director at our school. I decided to tackle this problem in order to help people stay fit at home. I used an Arduino UNO with an LCD screen, a multi-color RGB light, a cardboard box, and an ultrasonic sensor. A challenge I ran into was the external structure of my device. I used the concept of a distance meter with an Arduino ultrasonic sensor combined with my idea to create my device. It was hard thinking and creating something to store my hardware so I used a spare cardboard box. Another challenge that happens often was my code running into a lot of issues. I was amazed that I was able to create working hardware in only 2 days. I learned a great deal about exercise and using an ultrasonic sensor with Arduino. I plan in the future to improve my hardware with different parts and more functions. I also plan to find sponsors such as game companies to make my device into a game so people have competition and would exercise more. Lastly, I plan to make an educational program that will allow students like me to learn Arduino to make their own software based on the pushup counter.
