Inspiration
Purwokerto is known as a tourist city. There are so many tours in Purwokerto that can be enjoyed to take a break from the busy life or can also be used as a learning tour. We see that the tourism sector is very strategic. The tourism sector will lift the wheels of the local economy. So by advancing tourism we will also help advance the surrounding community. The beauty of the tourism sector will also experience a lack of visitors. Of course we know this is because the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic has made people change their lifestyle, which initially liked to do physical activity outdoors, but now prefer to do physical activity at home or even not do physical activity at all. From here we want to make PurwokARto an alternative solution for people to want to travel by providing a new experience in traveling using Augmented Reality technology.
What it does
PurwokARto can be a solution to the problems of the tourism sector in Purwokerto by presenting Augmented Reality technology that will color the experience and pleasure of the community in traveling. Users can register and then enter the application. Users will be shown initial instructions when the screen is loading. The menu in this application is very simple. Users can immediately enjoy the virtual display by pressing the scan button. People will be happy to see virtual objects added to the tourism environment in Purwokerto. Users will also be given a virtual assistant to direct in the application. You can dance with the virtual characters inside the app with voice commands (ayo joget (Indonesian language)). In addition, players can also fight in traditional games typical of Purwokerto online against their own friends.
How we built it
We created PurwokARto by using unity 3D software for software creation, corel draw for design creation, and blender for editing 3D assets. for some 3D assets we downloaded the free license. And some 3D assets we make ourselves, such as top sets. For the login authentication system in the game, we use Firebase, to create multiplayer, we also use Photons which we integrate with the username in Firebase.
The challenges we faced
This is our totality work with limited idea realization. The first problem is language. Since our target is local people who can't speak English, we made this app in 2 languages so it took a lot of time to create 2 language functions, but now it's done. We also encountered obstacles in making AR Geospatial because when we developed this application at home, the results were chaotic because our house was in an alley and was not reached by the map. In addition, it is unfortunate that our area and even almost areas in Indonesia are not available 3D virtual objects in Google Earth so that in using Arcore our area cannot appear visualization. Maybe that's what causes the results to shift by themselves. So that the 3D object that we want to display is not stable in some cases. In completing this challenge, I have built more than 60X applications for testing.
Achievements we are proud of
The thing that we are most proud of in completing this project is that we have broken down the walls of our limitations in learning. In a short period of less than 20 days we were able to complete this Hacketon with results that we feel are very optimal for us. We think we can consistently work on this hackathon, which is also very exciting. Because we have made progress so far.
What we learned
We learned a lot of things here. Starting from user account authentication, database connectivity, ARCore, ARgeospatial, learning team management, and self-management. We think our skills still need to be honed so that we can make the PurwokARto application more interactive and fun so that it can increase the attractiveness of tourism in the city of Purwokerto.
What to do next for PurwokARto
In the future we will strengthen our understanding of database connectivity. we will also explore multiplayer and we will realize our initial ideas that we have not been able to realize during this Hackaton submission. In the future we will add a dance feature by shaking the phone using the gyroscope and accelero meter that can be used to invite users to move. We have actually found this dance feature but we still cannot implement it. In the future, there will also be a feature to fight with other users with legendary monsters in the application. We also envision that in each tourist spot there will be a different game according to the location.
