Inspiration

We were Inspired by original doom and wanted to make a pseudo-3D game but instead of boring shooting game we had an idea about delivery, since delivery men always have trouble with dogs, we thought it would be cute to make it cats instead of People.

What it does

Its a 3rd person/ first person delivery game, where you have to avoid dogs and deliver the package.

How we built it

We developed the game in C++17 using Win32 and GDI, without a traditional game engine or STL. Our custom CPU raycaster renders the game at 640×400 resolution using DDA for walls, textured floor rendering, distance-based fog, half-height hedges, and heightmapped sloped roofs. We also implemented BFS-based enemy AI with different dog behaviors, a watchdog that alerts nearby enemies, procedural maps, and a custom audio mixer with synthesized sound effects.

Challenges we ran into

Rendering the walls to look like it is 3D and trying to implement a system where PNGs can be used instead of using colors

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We really love the whole game and this is our first time making a game that is not 2D and we are proud of the raycaster the most

What we learned

we learned how some of the fun tricks that can be used to make the game fun and we learned mostly about rendering and textures.

What's next for Purrcel Express

We plan to add more updates such as more enemies and more unique looking levels and more items.
